i have always considered myself a storyteller.
my first major in college was journalism. i had this dream of being a writer, focusing on music, for a glossy, urban magazine. i envisioned myself traversing the downtown clubs & bars, running from one performance to another, to capture the essence of a performer, & distill their magic into words, sent halfway across the world to people who trusted my opinion on great art.
almost 20 years from that first dream, my life’s work has actually been founded upon the same ideals; the same goals. instead of music as the means of expression, i focus on leadership development. instead of sourcing creative ventures for a magazine, i culminate efforts & actions for publication across the less glossy pages of curriculum development & assessment. instead of capturing the best hits of an underground artist, i identify talent & potential in student leaders, & creatively explore methods to best extract & highlight their genius. in place of convincing outside audiences of the influences & foundations of an artist’s work, i work with the individual, helping them to forge & capitalize on their own voice, their own baseline, their own sound, to convert them into fans of themselves.
i am still very much a writer, & i am still in the business of collaborating with others to create & explore narratives. it just looks & feels a little different.
